The National Palace is a historical building, classified as a National Monument.
It houses important decorative arts collections from the 18th and 19th centurie it was inhabited by the Portuguese Royal Family from the reign of King D. Luis I (1861) until the end of the monarchy in 1910. Nowadays it is a museum that is open to the public. It is also the stage for many official and State representation ceremonies.
